Viborg Kommune is a Danish municipality in Jutland . It was created on January 1, 2007 in the course of local government reform through the unification of the "old" Viborg municipality with the previous municipalities Bjerringbro , Fjends , Karup , Møldrup and Tjele as well as the school district Hvam of the previous municipality Aalestrup , all in the Viborg office .
Viborg municipality has a total population of 96,921 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and an area of 1,408.90 km². It is part of the Midtjylland region . The seat of the administration is in Viborg .
In the village Foulum operates Aarhus University agricultural research center AU Foulum .
The Asmildstein was found in the region .
