Aarhus Kommune is a Danish municipality in the east of the Midtjylland region . It extends over an area of 467.70 km² and has 349,983 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The seat of the administration is in Aarhus .
Aarhus Municipality was formed as part of the administrative reform of 1970 and was part of the Århus Office . The municipality was retained during the 2007 administrative reform.
The municipality was created through the merger of the city of Aarhus with the rural communities of Beder-Malling , Borum-Lyngby , Brabrand-Sdr. Årslev , Elev , Elsted , Harlev-Framlev , Hasle , Hjortshøj EGA , Holme-Tranbjerg , Mårslet , Ormslev-Kolt , Sabro-Fårup , Tilst-Kasted , Todbjerg-Mejlby , Trige , Solbjerg , Vejlby-Risskov , Viby and Åby and Parts of the parishes of Skødstrup and Vitved .
