Viby is a formerly independent city in Denmark. It is located on the southwestern periphery of Aarhus . Viby has around 30,000 residents. Until 1970 it belonged to Harde Ning Herred in what was then Århus Office , then to Aarhus Municipality in the "new" Århus Office , which today - unchanged by the local government reform on January 1, 2007 - belongs to the Midtjylland region.

economy

Viby is the headquarters of the global Swedish-Danish dairy group Arla and Jyllands-Posten , the largest Danish daily newspaper.

history

There may have been a royal residence at Viby during the Viking Age and early Middle Ages . The Viby Church was completed at the end of the 11th century. In 1884 Viby became a railway town .

In the 1960s, Viby began major urban expansion projects planned by the Århus Stiftstidende . The aim was to increase the population from 16,000 to 50,000. The infrastructure was modernized, industry settled, the city center refreshed, two more schools set up and around 1,800 new apartments built. In 1970 the Viby Center shopping center was completed.
