Until December 2006, Purhus Commune was a Danish commune in East Jutland in the then Århus Office . Since January 2007 it has been part of the new Randers Municipality together with the "old" Randers Municipality , Nørhald Municipality and Langå Municipality (excluding the three southernmost parishes) as well as the western part of Sønderhald Municipality and the Havndal area in Mariager Municipality .

Purhus Municipality was created as part of the administrative reform of 1970 and comprised the following Sogn :

• Kousted Sogn
• Læsten Sogn
• Nørbæk Sogn
• Spentrup Sogn
• Sønderbæk Sogn
