  1. a b c Skanderborg Slotssogn and Skanderup Sogn merged into Skanderborg Sogn in 2006 .

To the extent that Sogne were merged, this only relates to ecclesiastical issues. In its capacity as Matrikelsogne , i.e. as land register districts of the cadastral authority Geodatastyrelsen , such changes have not had any effect since the abolition of the Harden structure in 1970.

Culture and sights

  • The Skanderborg Museum was founded in 1913 by Herman Christian Arent. In addition to the natural history department, the Øm Kloster Museum offers information and tours of the city and regional history. In the open-air area you can view excavation finds and testimonies of the former monastery. Thematic events complement the permanent exhibitions. Other architectural monuments and historical places have been designated as special museums: two German bunkers with a permanent exhibition commemorate the German occupation during the Second World War, in one of the three preserved windmills you can get to know the traditional rural carving (manufacture of wooden shoes, tools and implements) In a converted water mill, traces and testimonies of the commercial inland fishermen, the trap builders and basket weavers can be seen.
  • In the middle of the old town you can see a crooked but uninhabitable house - it was bequeathed to his hometown as a project by the Danish children's book author Ole Lund Kirkegaard . The goal is a lovingly designed fantasy world that sponsors annually provide with new details - e.g. B. kite benches, bizarre street signs, facade paintings and a children's festival to be developed.
  • The Galten City Library is one of three public libraries in the municipality. The building on the Galten market square was lovingly decorated by the local artist Bente Petersen with cloth and felt dolls as well as child-friendly furniture; it offers events specially prepared for kindergartens and primary schools.
  • In the city center there is a cultural center built in a city park with a wide range of offers. The Park BIO cinema is the largest of the three motion picture theaters in the municipality and is located in the multifunctional hall of the Kulturhaus. It was opened in 1998 and offers 144 seats with standard seating. The non-profit association Skanderborg Biograffore , supported by 300 citizens, operates the cinemas. Family-friendly opening times and thematically diverse film programs are to be offered. With the mother-and-child program, further topics are networked in the cultural center.
  • The Ry Biograph cinema in the Ry district is the smallest and oldest cinema in the municipality with 93 seats. It was opened in 1918 on the estate of Rye Nørskov Gods and has been run by the association since 1990, which offers two evening shows.
  • The BIO Huset cinema in the Galten district was built in the 1950s and is also municipal property. It has 102 seats. In addition to the current programs of major film providers, the cinema offers selected films for schools and senior groups in the mornings, and the short films for toddlers shown once a month as BabyBif are also popular .
  • The adult education center Ry Højskole was founded in 1892 and after 2004 broke away from old school operations and developed into a cultural meeting point and conference venue. The 23 rooms and workshops on offer offer ample opportunities for artistic design, cooking courses, literary readings and music, theater and ballet performances rehearsed by the course participants. Most of the “students” are 20 to 25 years old and come from all over Denmark to take a course with renowned instructors.
  • There are local archives in three parts of the city that collect and scientifically document the estate of their residents.
  • The place Sølund was designed in 1970 on the edge of a nature reserve (swamp area) as a social settlement. In addition to the communal care home, the place has a wildlife park with mountain goats and a pony farm, and the place is also known for its mud bath.
  • In a beech grove not far from the city center, folk festivals and singers' meetings were held as early as the 1870s. A natural stage was created as a job creation project, which was inaugurated as the Skanderborg Amphitheater in 1928 and which made entertainment for young and old possible in the summer months until the beginning of the Second World War. In 1938 the annual meeting of the Danish Abstinence Association was held there in the open air. The area, which was largely overgrown in the 1980s, was discovered by young people as an ideal venue for a rock music event. After several disastrous events, the legendary Skanderborg Festival quickly developed from 1985 onwards with more than 25,000 loyal visitors.

Sports and leisure activities

  • The Skanderborg Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course. It is located not far from Skanderborg Sø in a hilly area and therefore requires physical fitness. Club guests are looked after in their own hotel.
  • The Danish Christian Youth Association acquired an extensive piece of land in the scenic area and opened it as the FDF open-air center Sletten . The youth camp is considered the most beautiful tent camp in the heart of Denmark, the almost 100 hectare property offers a variety of leisure activities. The ten-day FDF state meeting with up to 15,000 participants takes place on the site every five years.
  • The commune's lakes, connected by rivers and canals, are appreciated by sailors and water hikers.
  • In 1994, a three-time world record in sport fishing for bream was set at Skanderborg Sø. The opportunities for sport and recreational anglers are praised. Many beginners have caught their first fish in the municipal “Put & Take” fish ponds. Some of the fishing spots are handicapped accessible, even wheelchair users can fish there effortlessly.
