Viborg Amt consisted of twelve Harden ( Danish : Herred ):
With the municipal reform in 1970, Viborg Amt was split between Ringkjøbing Amt , the “new” Viborg Amt and Århus Amt .
The parish of Engesvang Sogn was added to the municipality of Ikast in Ringkjøbing Amt.
Some southern and western parishes have been given to the following six municipalities in Århus :
The following thirteen municipalities were formed in the "new" Viborg Office from most of the official area:
- Bjerringbro
- Fjends
- Hvorslev
- Karup
- Kjellerup
- Møldrup
- Sallingsund
- Skive
- Spøttrup
- Sundsøre

In addition, the parishes of Estvad and Rønbjerg from the Harde Ginding Herred in the Ringkøbing office of the Skive municipality in the "new" Viborg office were added.
