Ribe Office (before 1970)

Ribe office

Ribe Office (named after the city of Ribe ) was one of the offices in Denmark at that time until the Danish municipal reform on April 1, 1970 . It was created in 1793 from the previous Riberhus office . The office covered areas of several medieval Syssel : Vardesyssel , Jellingsyssel , Almindsyssel , Barvidsyssel and Ellumsyssel .

Most of the Ribe Amt belonged to the Duchy of Schleswig until the German-Danish War in 1864 , but following the war there was an exchange of land for the royal enclaves acquired by Queen Margaret I in the Middle Ages . Denmark renounced the enclaves (except Ribe), and could instead keep Ribe Herred , Nørre Tyrstrup Herred (until then Haderslev Amt , then Vejle Amt ) and the island of Ærø ( Ærø Herred , until then Nordborg Amt , then Svendborg Amt ).
