Rødkærsbro or Rødkjærsbro (German: Rotsumpfbrücke) is a town with a rail connection (Danish: stationsby) in the Central Jutland region, 26 km north of Silkeborg and 16 km southeast of Viborg . The city was founded with the railway connection in 1863 and belongs to the municipality of Viborg .

The main thoroughfare, Primærrute 26 , ran temporarily through the town and made a sharp turn of about 45 ° where Århusvej and Søndergade meet. After serious accidents at this point, a 10 km long bypass (Danish: Rødkærsbro Omfartsvej) was built in 1998 as a pure car road with a 2 + 1 lane to keep through traffic out of the city.

The Vindelsbæk flows south of the city and flows into the Tange Å (Tange Au). Brandstrup Moor (Brandstrup Mose) is located three kilometers north of Rødkærsbro and was placed under nature protection in 1984. The Palstrup manor is three kilometers south of the city.

railroad

Jutland's second oldest railway line, Langå-Viborg Jernbane , was inaugurated on July 21, 1863 and got a station in Rødkærsbro, because south of the station there was a bridge over a deeper swampy area, which is why the name Rødkær (red swamp), because of the place was surrounded by reddish growth.

In 1911 the current station building was erected at Bahnhofstrasse 7 (Jernbanegade), because Rødkærsbro was to become a railway junction with the opening of the railway line from Rødkjærsbro to Kjellerup in 1912. This Rødkjærsbro-Kjellerup Bahn ( Rødkjærsbroen-Kjellerup ) was operated as a private railway and extended to Silkeborg in 1924 . The name was changed to Silkeborg-Kjellerup-Rødkjærsbro Railway ( Silkeborg – Kjellerup – Rødkærsbro Jernbane ). In 1968 the line was closed.
