The Danish port city of Vordingborg (Eng. Vordingburg ) is located in the extreme south of Zealand on Masnedsund. Here the Storstrømsbroen leads to Falster , a combined road and rail bridge that is part of the Vogelfluglinie (rail traffic). The old municipality was 176.4 km ². Since January 1, 2007, the municipality of Vordingborg in the Sjælland region consists of the old municipalities of Langebæk , Møn , Præstø and Vordingborg . 45,566 people live in an area of now 621 km² (as of January 1, 2020). Vordingborg belongs to the parish of Vordingborg Sogn .

Vordingborg is located about 17 km southwest of Præstø, 28 km west of Stege , 29 km south of Næstved , 31 km north of Nykøbing Falster , 53 km northeast of Rødby and 92 km southwest of Copenhagen .
history
In 1353, Queen Margaret I was born in the local palace , who was the most powerful woman in Europe in her time. The first peace of Vordingborg was concluded at Vordingborg Castle in 1365 . Under Margaret's successor, King Erik VII , the second peace of Vordingborg took place in 1435 with Count Adolf VIII of Schauenburg and the Hanseatic cities under the leadership of Lübeck .

Culture and sights
A well-known tourist attraction is the landmark of Vordingborg the Goose Tower (Danish: Gåsetårn ). It was built for Valdemar Atterdag from 1362 to 1365 and is one of the best preserved medieval towers in Scandinavia.
Knudsby Stordysse (No. 88961), on Orebyvej, the Langdolmen in Oreby Skov and Milehøj lie northwest of the city at the beginning of the Knudshoved Odde peninsula .
