The passage grave Milehøj ( Danish Milehøj jættestue ) is in a mound west of Stuby, about 4.0 km northwest of Vordingborg and equipped with the approximately 8.0 x 2.3 m large, regular chamber handsomer to the south of the island of Zealand in Denmark . The passage grave is a form of Neolithic megalithic systems , which consists of a chamber and a structurally separated, lateral passage. This form is primarily found in Denmark, Germany and Scandinavia, as well as occasionally in France and the Netherlands.

description

Between 3500 and 2800 BC The megalithic complex of the funnel beaker culture (TBK), which was created in the 4th century, consists of 15 bearing stones and five large cap stones. The hallway , which was once around 6.0 m long and facing east, is only preserved in the inner area, at the transition to the chamber. The outer stones were already missing in 1905, as a drawing in the National Museum shows. As Andreas Peter Madsen (1822–1911) wrote in 1905, the Milehøj chamber was completely filled with earth. The passage grave was protected by an agreement with the owner in 1908. In 1917 an investigation began of the complex, which had previously been haunted by treasure hunters.

The addition of stone slabs between the bearing stones and the cap stones served to raise the chamber. The partially quite wide intermediate masonry was mixed with clay and crushed flint and there are examples of a seal made of birch bark. The two corner pillars at the transition to the corridor carry a flat intermediate stone on which the capstone rests. This method derives the capstone and mound pressure from the large passage opening. The southern pillar, with its almost vertical corners, has been carefully selected and perhaps trimmed for the purpose. In 2006 a stiffener on the southern capstone was replaced and the system restored.
