Vordingborg Sogn is a parish municipality ( Danish Sogn ) in the south of the island of Sjælland in southern Denmark . Until 1970 it belonged to Harde Bårse Herred in what was then Præstø Amt , then to Vordingborg Kommune in Storstrøms Amt , which was merged into the "new" Vordingborg Municipality in the Sjælland region on January 1, 2007 as part of the local government reform .
The parish has 12,704 inhabitants, the majority of whom belong to the 12,032 inhabitants of Vordingborg . 2,469 people live in the neighboring town of Nyråd. (As of January 1, 2020). In the parish is the church "Vordingborg Kirke".
The peninsula Knudshoved Odde is separated from the main part of Vordingborg Sogn by the Kastrup Sogn . Other neighboring communities are Ørslev Sogn in the north, Øster Egesborg Sogn in the north-east and Stensby Sogn in the east . The municipality is connected to the island of Farø in Bogø Sogn via the north of Farøbroen ( German: Farøbrücke ) , and via the Storstrømsbroen (German: Storstrøm sbrücke) to Nørre Vedby Sogn on the island of Falster in Guldborgsund Municipality .
