The Heimwehr Special Support and Reconnaissance Company (also for short: Særlig Støtte og Rekognoscering ; abbreviation: SSR ) is a special unit of the Heimwehr of the Danish armed forces based in the Sjælsmark barracks in Hørsholm .

task

Hjemmeværnets Særlig Støtte og Rekognosceringskompagni is Denmark's only tele-spying company . It operates in small and often self-sufficient scouting parties to carry out reconnaissance and to gain key information in the depths of the battlefield. Remote observation troops and staff support international and Danish special forces, such as the Frømandskorpset (German: Froschmannkorps ) and the Jægerkorpset (German: Jägerkorps).

Human Resources and Recruiting

The soldiers of the Hjemmeværnets Særlig Støtte og Rekognosceringskompagni are mostly reservists . They undertake to work around 25 days a year, which is primarily done on weekends.

Due to the special challenges facing the company, the selection process is very selective. It extends to a 22-day entrance test that is spread over several weekends. Reservists who are already serving in other units of the Home Guard can apply . Successful applicants then go through a one-year probationary year and a total of three years of training to become a tele scout. Exercises take place primarily on weekends. In addition, an evening course must be taken once a week on weekdays.

history

1959-1994

The forerunner of the SSR was the Special Efterretningspatruljer (short: SEP; German: Spezial Frontnachrichtenpatrouille ) set up in 1959 . During the Cold War , the patrol specialized in tactical reconnaissance, including long range surveillance, as long range reconnaissance patrols behind enemy lines . Originally, this deep reconnaissance was carried out from observation points. Later, covert patrols were also planned, which should operate mobile. During this time, SEP conducted joint exercises with the US Army Special Forces and the two regiments 21 SAS (V) and 23 SAS (V) , which are the two reserve units of the Special Air Service and belong to the British Territorial Army of the British Army . Both should undertake long- distance reconnaissance missions like the Special Efterretningspatruljer in case of defense . The Special Efterretningspatruljer was dissolved in 1994.

1995-2007

Parts of the unit were reorganized as a reconnaissance company for the land forces in Zealand in 1995. The company was subordinate as Østre Landkommando Patruljekompagni (German: Patrouillenkompanie Kommando Landstreit Forces East) initially as corps to the Army Command Zealand (NATO designation: LANDZEALAND ).

In 2001 the unit was subordinated to the Danish Army Command as Patruljekompagniet ved Hærens Operative Kommando (German: Patrouillenkompanie Heeresführungskommando).

2007 – today

In 2007 the Patruljekompagniet was given its current name Hjemmeværnets Særlig- Støtte og Rekognosceringskompagni (SSR) and was placed under the Home Guard. By changing from the Army Command to the Home Guard, the SSR is also available to the command commands of the other armed forces if necessary. Hjemmeværnets Særlig- Støtte og Rekognosceringskompagni celebrated its 50th anniversary on April 9, 2009 as a special reconnaissance company and the oldest existing reconnaissance and tele-spying unit of the Home Guard.

Note: Some education trains the Home Guard use the title until today for historical reasons Patruljekompagni continued. However, these do not have the ability to provide remote reconnaissance. They are "regular" reconnaissance trains of the higher-level associations and are or were not part of the SSR or its predecessors.

Subunits

Combat swimmers

The long-distance reconnaissance company has sub-units that work together in training with the Danish special marine unit Frømandskorpset (German: Froschmannkorps für Kampfschwimmer ) and are also trained. Her skills include covert sea landing and various other covert infiltration options .

Personal protection teams

Since 2006, selected soldiers of the SSR (and its predecessor) by the Danish were Special Forces Hunter Corps (German: Hunter Corps) for military bodyguards trained. In the Iraq mission and the subsequent occupation as well as in Afghanistan , parts of the SSR provided personal protection troops .
