Ādaži (German: Neuermühlen ) is a place and district center in Latvia , about 25 km northeast of the center of the capital Riga on the Gauja . In 2018 Ādaži had 6,724 inhabitants.

history

Neuermühlen Castle has been mentioned in a document at least since 1204.

The Battle of Neuermühlen took place in Neuermühlen in 1492, in which the Teutonic Order prevailed against the bishops of Riga as the protective power of Livonia.

Today Ādaži is home to the largest potato chip factory in Latvia.

The Latvian army maintains a troop base in the forest area near Kadaga, north of Ādaži, on the other bank of the Gauja . A NATO contingent , the Forward Presence Battlegroup Latvia (LatBat), under the leadership of Canada , has been stationed there since June 20, 2017 .
