Lists on the subject |
The USP pistol ( U niversale S elbstlade p istole) is manufactured by Heckler & Koch in Oberndorf am Neckar .
technology
Made of polyamide with a high proportion of glass fiber , the USP is a weapon that is resistant to chemicals, wear and tear and temperature differences. The barrel and breech are made of steel. The USP uses a modified Browning system that is significantly cheaper and more robust than the roller lock system of the P9S and the gas-braked mass lock system of the P7 . Overall, the weapon proved to be very robust and reliable in tests from -42 ° C to +67 ° C.
The weapon is available in the calibers 9 × 19 mm , .40 S&W and .45 ACP . There is also a variant of the USP Compact in caliber .357 SIG , the production of which has been discontinued.
Model variants
A modified version of the USP has been introduced to the Bundeswehr under the name P8 , with a different fuse or without a fuse as a combat variant and with a drawn instead of the polygon barrel and transparent magazine. The USP Compact is used in Germany under the name P10 as a service weapon by the police in some countries (including the Saarland ). In addition, it is also used in the corresponding penal institutions of the federal states.
The USP Match , USP Expert , USP Elite and USP Custom Sport models with barrel lengths of four to six inches and sporty sights were developed for sporting purposes . The USP Match model was discontinued in 1999 and is no longer offered for sale by Heckler & Koch.
As part of a new development for US special forces, the SOCOM Mark23 was developed, a USP variant in .45 ACP and with a long barrel as the primary attack weapon . Because of these requirements, this version is heavier and more unwieldy than any other pistol in the series. Heckler & Koch then developed the USP Tactical . This corresponds to the performance characteristics of the Mark23, but is more compact and designed as a secondary weapon. Both can be equipped with a silencer .
