The P2A1 signal pistol from Heckler & Koch with a tiltable barrel and plastic grip fires a number of signal or light parachute cartridges in caliber 26.5 mm up to a height of 305 m with a firing time of 6 to 25 seconds. It is used by the police and armed forces as well as by rescue services as well as aviation and shipping (professional and sport shipping).

With a length of 200 mm (barrel length 155 mm) the pistol is 145 mm high and 38 mm wide. The unloaded weight is 520 g.

For the pistol, there was also a conversion kit for the launch of tear gas grenades . An insert barrel was pushed into the barrel from behind . A launching cup for the grenades was screwed onto this at the front. Special propellant cartridges in caliber 7.62 × 51 mm NATO were necessary for firing.
