Lists on the subject |
The HK PSG1 ( P räzisions s rotect g ewehr 1 ) is a self-loading - sniper rifle of the German manufacturer Heckler & Koch .
Development and use
The weapon was developed after the failed liberation from the hostage-taking of Munich . During this rescue attempt, the German police forces were unable to eliminate the terrorists quickly enough to prevent the hostages from being killed. Heckler & Koch then developed a weapon from the HK-G3 assault rifle or HK91 for use by special units of the police and the military , which offered a large ammunition supply (up to 20 rounds when using the G3 magazine) with good reliability. Was available as the rifle in 1985, it quickly earned a reputation as one of the präzisesten semi-automatic sniper rifles in the world with a deviation of less than 1 arc minute (Engl. Minute-of-Angle shortly MOA ) to be. It is able to reach an 80mm circle at 300 meters at 50 shots.
According to the manufacturer, the main purpose of the weapon is to use it as a "police precision rifle". The rifle is mainly used by special police units, as it is relatively expensive compared to other self-loading sniper rifles (price from approx. 9,000 US dollars ) and has a maximum combat range of 600 meters that is too short for military requirements due to the built-in telescopic sight.
construction
The weapon has a wooden pistol grip with adjustable palm rest and a length-adjustable shoulder rest with height-adjustable cheek rest and adjustable shoulder rest. There is a locking aid so that the shooter does not give himself away by the sound of the slide before the shot is fired. The trigger can be fitted with a slide-on trigger stop . The handguard can accommodate a bipod or a shooting sling.
The PSG1 is only a 6 x 42- scope of Hensoldt with illuminated reticle offered that allows the settings of 100 to 600 meters. This corresponds to the requirements of police snipers who operate at a shorter shooting distance than military snipers, whose combat range usually only begins at 600 m.
Other models
In 2006, Heckler & Koch launched the PSG1A1 , which differs from its predecessor in two main ways: On the one hand, the cocking lever was turned a few degrees counter-clockwise to avoid colliding with larger and longer telescopic sights when cocking. On the other hand, the Hensoldt riflescope was replaced to enable combat distances beyond the limiting 600-meter mark. Therefore, the PSG1A1 is usually equipped with a Schmidt & Bender 3–12 × 50 Police Marksman II riflescope mounted on 34mm rings.
There is also a military version of the PSG1, the MSG90 A2 , which uses a 10 × 42 rifle scope and is approx. 1 kg lighter.
