Lists on the subject |
The HK GMW (short for H Eckler & K och G Ranat m achines w monkey ) is one of the Heckler & Koch GmbH produced machines grenade launcher in caliber mm 40 × 53 .
development
Although the Bundeswehr had a comparable weapon system available to the National People's Army in the form of the AGS-17 Plamja , these were not adopted, but a short time later an in-house development was started. The development lasted from 1992 to 1995 and the GMW was taken over into the equipment of the BW in 1996.
description
The GMW is a full-blown blowback gun with a rifled barrel. The ammunition is fed from a decay belt with a capacity of 32 grenade cartridges, either from the left or the right. The barrel can be changed without tools. The main sight is a passive optical sight with an additional red illuminated dot, which is equipped with a ladder sight up to 1500 m (in 100 m steps). The weapon has an additional mechanical emergency sight for variable distances.
Shooting positions are both standing and sitting. For this purpose, GMW has two different extraction devices; one on the right of the handle, the other as a button-shaped trigger on top of the weapon.
Due to its weight, the weapon can only be moved to a limited extent by the infantry on foot. The use of an infantry cart as a wheel mount to make the weapon mobile is not provided.
Range of use
The GMW is a weapon that closes the equipment gap between the high cadence but low fragmentation and anti-armor effects of a machine gun and the low cadence but high fragmentation and anti-armor effects of a grenade launcher . Due to its weight, the GMW 40 mm can be used both as an infantry weapon on a tripod and as a " door gun " for helicopters , on patrol boats and on a carriage for vehicles.
In the Bundeswehr , the infantry, naval protection forces and the air force's object protection squadrons are equipped with the " GraMaWa "; During missions abroad it is used to secure camps. It can optionally be carried as the main armament on vehicles that are equipped with a remote-controlled light weapon station FLW 200 or the mechanical weapon station 1530.
