Schmidt & Bender is a German company that has specialized in the production and development of high-quality rifle scopes for hunting and sport as well as the police and the military. In particular, the Police Marksman series ( PM and PM II for short ) are used by many special forces worldwide .
history
The company was founded in 1957 by the precision mechanic Helmut Schmidt and the master precision mechanic Helmut Bender in Biebertal in the district of Gießen in Central Hesse and is still owned by the founding families. It employs over 80 people in Germany.
At first, Schmidt & Bender produced exclusively for larger German mail-order hunting companies that sold the rifle scopes under various brand names such as "Geco", "Horrido" and "Akah". In the course of time, however, they began to sell rifle scopes under their own name, and so the rifle scopes are only available under the name "Schmidt & Bender" today.
The company manufactures largely by hand, which limits the number of riflescopes produced.
Schmidt & Bender Hungaria optics
In 1992 Schmidt & Bender Hungaria Optikai KFT was founded in Budapest by Schmidt & Bender GmbH & Co. KG as an independent company. The privatizations in Hungary made it possible for Schmidt & Bender to acquire the manufacturer of optical components and glass fibers , the Hungarian Optical Works (MOM), which was founded in 1876 and which had previously produced optical components for Schmidt & Bender riflescopes. Today 80 people are employed there.
