Lists on the subject |
The PGM 338 is a sniper rifle from the French company PGM Précision . The weapon is named after its caliber .338 Lapua Magnum (8.6 × 70 mm) and its manufacturer. It is also known as PGM .338 LM (LM - Lapua Magnum) or PGM Mini-Hecate .338 .
Outside France, the weapon is marketed, among others, by the Belgian arms manufacturer Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre (FN Herstal). PGM Précision competes with the PGM 338 and other models on the world market, in particular with the Arctic Warfare series from the British manufacturer Accuracy International .
Structure and technology
In contrast to other modern sniper rifles, on which many plastic parts are used, the PGM 338 is built on a solid chassis and bolt housing made of aluminum. While the bolt and the barrel, in which the bolt head is locked with three locking lugs, are made of high-alloy steel, the barrel is made of cold-forged steel by the German company Walther. The barrel is freely swinging and has six pulls, which optionally transmit a right-hand twist to the projectile over a twist length of ten or twelve inches. With these different twist lengths, light, mostly special bullets, or heavy 300-grain bullets of the .338 Lapua Magnum cartridge are taken into account.
The trigger is two-stage and the trigger resistance can be adjusted in the factory or by a gunsmith between 10 and 16 Newtons .
To accommodate the rifle scope , the rifle is equipped with a Picatinny rail , on which the rifle scope, a residual light amplifier or other attachments can easily be attached. The use of the standard muzzle brake is recommended by the manufacturer, although it can be easily removed.
Furnishing
The weapon is mostly used with a ten-round box magazine. Larger magazines are available. In addition, a silencer specially designed for the weapon , another wooden handle, the installation of another Picatinny rail and its side extensions, an emergency sight and other telescopic sight mountings are available.
ammunition
In the .338 Lapua-Magnum caliber, the weapon has a long range, as the projectile maintains supersonic speed up to a distance of around 1200 m. This guarantees the penetration of body armor. The PGM 338 is mainly used as an anti-personnel weapon at distances of 500–1200 m.
variants
For smaller distances, PGM Précision offers the PGM Ultima Ratio in caliber 7.62 × 51 mm NATO ; for greater distances or as an anti-material weapon, the larger PGM Hécate II in 12.7 × 99 mm NATO caliber .
