The PGM Hécate II (or PGM Ultima Ratio Hécate II ) is an anti-materiel rifle of the French armed forces .
Technology and commitment
PGM Hécate II is used against lightly armored vehicles, aircraft and other material targets such as radar antennas, missile positions and to remove duds . Another area of responsibility is fighting enemy snipers , as the rifle has a comparatively large effective range and is also effective through obstacles.
It belongs to the category of heavy precision rifles in the 12.7 × 99 mm NATO caliber . The locking is done by a cylinder lock with three locking lugs at the front. In the event of a rupture of a cartridge case, gas vent holes have been incorporated into the breech to prevent injuries to the shooter. The case ejection is on the right and is closed with a slide.
The barrel of the Hécate is lined with a hard metal alloy made of Stellite , which is otherwise used in heavy machine guns. This achieves an extraordinary longevity of the barrel. The manufacturer's website states 12,000 shots here.
The first specimens only had a bipod, later the piston was provided with a ground spur . This makes it easier to aim at the target over long periods of time while lying down. The recoil is reduced to a tolerable level by a large but very effective muzzle brake . The muzzle brake can be removed and replaced with a silencer.
With weapons of this type, targets can be fought at great distances. They are used against enemy snipers and machine gun positions up to a distance of about 1.2 kilometers. Beyond this, the accuracy of the rifle is enough to fight the opponent's equipment in the form of vehicles, helicopters or means of communication.
The weapon is used by the French armed forces including the Foreign Legion , the Austrian special unit EKO-Cobra and the Swiss army .
The name of the weapon refers to the Greek deity Hecate , the goddess of magic.
In 2004, the Swiss Army procured 20 PGM Hécate II. These are called the Precision Rifle 04 (12.7 mm PGw 04) . As a scope which is LTE J10 F1 8-10x the company Scrome used. The precision rifle 04 is used by the special forces command .
