The Patria AMV (engl. For A rmored M odular V ehicle ) is a four-wheel drive, three- or four-axis multi-purpose military vehicle . It is made by the Finnish arms company Patria . The first prototype was produced in 2001 and the first units were delivered to the Finnish armed forces in 2003 . Series production started in 2004.

description

The main characteristic of the AMV is its modular design , which makes it the basic platform for various uses such as turrets , armament, sensors or communication systems. Sun designs exist for various troop transport versions ( APC armored personnel carrier ) or Protect Radpanzer ( IFV: infantry fighting vehicle ), various applications for telecommunications and medical corps , the combat support troops , as well as armored versions with large-caliber mortars and machine gun systems . A very important property of the AMV is its passive protective effect against mines , which withstands explosions of up to 10 kg TNT .

commitment

The Polish Armed Forces have ordered 313 units of the vehicle equipped with the Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów UKM-2000 C, 30mm MK turret ( ATK Mk44 Chain Gun ) from the Italian manufacturer Oto Melara , as well as 377 units in various other configurations made between 2004 and 2013 were delivered. Some Polish vehicles are currently in service in Afghanistan ( ISAF ). The Polish AMV are called KTO Rosomak (" Bear Marten ") in the Polish Army .

The vast majority of vehicles on the type KTO Rosomak was of Wojskowe Zakłady Mechaniczne from Siemianowice Slaskie made.

The Finnish Army ordered 24 units with AMOS - mortar system and 62 units with Protector M151 -Fernzielbewaffnung for HMG .50 M2HB QCB or grenade machine gun by Heckler & Koch . The standard version is called the XA-360 in the Finnish Army , while the AMOS version is called the XA-361 .

In May 2007 the South African company Denel Land Systems was commissioned to produce an improved version of the AMV, which offers the South African army greater protection against fire and the risk of mines . The AMV is intended to replace the South African Ratel units as part of the Hoefyster (horseshoe) program. Five different versions are to be procured: Command, Mortar, Missile, Section and Fire Support .

In July 2007, the Croatian Defense Ministry selected the Patria AMV as the new armored combat vehicle for the Croatian Armed Forces as a result of their very first international tender. 84 units of the AMV are to be procured. Originally 84 units of four-axle and 42 units of three-axle vehicles were planned. However, the Croatian Ministry of Defense confirmed the purchase of 84 units of Patria AMV with 8 × 8 propulsion. The purchase of the three-axle version was discarded. The order for the remaining 42 units was placed in December 2008. Since the Croatian army needs around 280 pieces of armored combat vehicles, further procurement orders are considered likely.

The government of Macedonia confirmed in 2006 that it wanted to order the same version as Croatia and to save its own trial attempts for cost reasons. The configuration of the vehicles is said to be similar to the Slovenian one, but probably in smaller numbers.

In January 2008, the supplier Patria announced that the armed forces of the United Arab Emirates had ordered an undisclosed number of the AMV with BMP-3 turret.

On January 30th, 2008 it was announced that the supplier Patria would deliver the first 30 units of AMV within four months if the Czech Army selected the AMV as the new troop carrier. The Czech Republic had already chosen the Austrian Steyr Pandur as the new troop transport. However, the Czech government resigned from the contract at the end of 2007 because Steyr was unable to fulfill the contract.

Janes reported in November 2017 that 81 pieces of the Patria AMY XP chassis were also being delivered to the Slovakian manufacturer Konstrukta Defense from Nová Dubnica . The business is worth 1.3 billion euros. In Slovak sources we only speak of a system price of EUR 417 million. Slovakia makes its version with the Russian machine gun Schipunow 2A42 equip.

Collaboration between Patria and Lockheed Martin

Patria and Lockheed Martin have signed a cooperation agreement for the tender of the US Marines MPC (Marine Personnel Carrier). The MPC armored personnel carrier is intended to replace the LAV-25 . The United States Marine Corps plans to purchase 600 units of the new MPC. After the planned end of the tender in the second quarter of 2008, the US Marines wanted to evaluate various offers.

Patria is to supply the four-axis version of the AMV. Lockheed Martin Systems Integration is responsible for the MPC offering as well as system integration, survivability systems, manufacturing in the USA, as well as networking and logistics.
