Patria NEMO (from NE w MO rtar) is a tower-based, remote-controlled 120 mm mortar system manufactured by the Finnish company Patria . Primarily, the system combats long-term goals with high-angle fire , but can also lead to self-defense combat short-term goals with direct fire.
history
The Finnish company Patria had already delivered the AMOS system to the Swedish armed forces in 2007 , which consists of a two-barrel 120 mm mortar and tower system. In June 2006 the Patria NEMO was presented, which is also a tower-supported mortar system, but only has one tube and is therefore considerably cheaper than the AMOS.
In 2006 the Slovenian Army ordered several Patria NEMO systems for their armored vehicles, but the order was canceled in 2012.
In February 2009, ordered Navy of the United Arab Emirates twelve new patrol boats , some of which with the Patria NEMO were equipped.
In autumn 2010 it was announced that Saudi Arabia had acquired 36 Patria NEMO turret systems for their LAV-II armored vehicles.

Although the Patria NEMO is , according to the manufacturer, a mortar system, it has uncharacteristic properties for a mortar, such as the possibility of direct fire at close-up targets. Conventional mortars fight targets in steep fire, while the Patria NEMO can lower the barrel down to -3 ° and thus use it for self-defense. The system is remote controlled and consists of a tower in which the mortar barrel is attached. The swivel range is 360 °. Patria presented the system on the Patria AMV armored vehicle that it manufactured . The tower can also be mounted on other armored vehicles , tracked vehicles and ships.
A crew of three (driver, gunner, gunner) is required to fire the system. The system is ready to fire within 30 seconds and only takes 10 seconds to change position after firing.
