The Makarow pistol , or PM for short ( Russian пистолет Макарова (ПМ) , German transcription : pistolet Makarowa ) is a self-loading pistol developed in the Soviet Union and produced to this day . It fires the specially created 9 × 18 mm cartridge and is completely milled from steel . The weapon is named after its designer Nikolai Fjodorowitsch Makarow .
development
The Makarow resulted from a competition announced in 1945 for a successor to the semi-automatic pistol Tokarew TT-33 . Production began in 1949. The pistol was used by the Soviet Army as a standard orderly weapon ( side arm ) from 1951 to 1991 and is still used in the Russian armed forces today , but is gradually being replaced by the Jarygin PJa . In many countries it was or is the standard weapon of the police and the military . It is generally considered to be very reliable, but - like the Tokarev - quite inaccurate handgun.
The cartridge specially developed for this pistol is similar to the 9 mm Ultra cartridge proposed (but not introduced) for the Luftwaffe by Geco and Walther in Zella-Mehlis in 1936 .
description
The Makarow pistol is an unlocked recoil loader with a fixed barrel and a spring-mass bolt . It works according to the DA / SA principle . It has a cocked trigger and can be pulled off smoothly both in double action and with the cock previously cocked. When the hammer is released, the shoulder of the trigger automatically engages in the safety catch and prevents the hammer from hitting the firing pin. The safety locks the trigger and firing pin and also relaxes the hammer. The magazine is a single-row bar magazine. The pistol is dismantled by - with the magazine removed - first pulling the trigger guard down, sliding it to the right or left so that it rests on the handle, and then simply pulling the slide back and lifting it.
The Makarow pistol is similar to the German Walther PP in terms of these characteristics and aesthetics . The design of the individual components (hammer, trigger, ejector, slide catch, firing pin, safety lever) as well as their internal function with one another is different than with the PP.
The recoil spring surrounds the barrel and is slightly conical in shape, i. H. the rear end of the spring has a slightly smaller diameter than the front. If the recoil spring is installed upside down during assembly, the slide will either slide slowly or not at all forward after the shot, causing the load to jam. The mainspring in the back of the handle also serves as a magazine catch spring. A lanyard hole is attached to the lower handle. When the last cartridge is fired, the slide catch holds the slide in the rear position. After inserting the reserve magazine, pressing down on the slide catch lever on the left side of the frame above the trigger unlocks the slide so that it snaps forward, inserts a new cartridge into the chamber and the weapon is ready to fire. The empty cartridge cases are ejected to the top right.
