The .380 ACP ( Automatic Colt Pistol , also known as 9 mm for short in German-speaking countries) is a pistol cartridge. It goes back to 1908 and was developed by John Moses Browning . The projectile energy is significantly lower than that of a 9 mm Parabellum , because it was intended for use in pistols with an unlocked ground lock.
It should be noted that Browning also developed another cartridge in the nominal caliber .38 ACP (9 × 23 mm HR).
