The B & T AG before 2011 Brügger & Thomet AG , is a Swiss company, which is commercially available and in the manufacture of weapons and equipment for police and military operates. The public limited company is based in Thun in the canton of Bern .

history

The company was established in May 1991 by Karl Brügger and Heinrich Thomet as a general partnership under the name Brügger & Thomet in Spiez founded to silencers produce (SD) for the domestic market. In the same year, Brügger & Thomet received a license from the Swiss government to import and export weapons and equipment for the police and military. Since then, Brügger & Thomet has been a sales representative for companies such as CGHaenel , Heckler & Koch , Aimpoint , Surefire , Taser International and Benelli .

In 1997 Brügger & Thomet was converted into a public limited company. Heinrich Thomet later sold his shares in Karl Brügger, who thus became the sole owner of B&T AG , and resigned as Chairman of the Board of Directors at the end of September 2005 .

In 2001 Brügger & Thomet launched the “ Brügger & Thomet MP9 ”, their first submachine gun. This was followed by the “APR” family of sniper rifles and the “GL-06” grenade launchers .

In April 2011 the company name was changed from Brügger & Thomet AG to B&T AG .

On March 29, 2019, B&T was awarded the contract under the Sub Compact Weapon Production-Other Transaction Agreement of the US Army . The order includes the delivery of 350 SCWs (Sub Compact Weapons) [the military version of the APC9 ] for $ 2.6 million. The order includes an option for 1,000 more SCWs including accessories.

Social Commitment

B&T AG is the main sponsor of the Swiss ice hockey club SCL Tigers (Langnau, Emmental), which plays in the Swiss National League and is also internationally active, through the outdoor and tactical clothing and equipment brand 5.11 . Karl "Käru" Brügger himself is a board member of SCL Tigers; He is particularly committed to promoting young people as President of the SCL Young Tigers, where more than 200 children and young people learn team sport.

criticism

In 2009, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) approved Brügger & Thomet's “ know-how transfer for the manufacture of small arms to a Ukrainian company ”, as a SECO spokeswoman confirmed to the SonntagsZeitung . In addition, individual parts for the production of around 30 to 50 sniper rifles were also shipped from Thun to the Ukraine. The rifles were purchased to protect the European Championships in 2012 ; they were used against the Ukrainian people . Yanukovych used Euro 2012 specifically to upgrade the security forces , Ukraine expert Ievgen Vorobiov added to the SonntagsZeitung , " the interior ministry's special forces are well trained and well equipped ". The weapons used by the snipers of the Yanukovych regime, documented in photos and video recordings, are licensed replicas of the Swiss precision rifle Brügger & Thomet APR . Research by the Australian weapons analysis center Ares and the SonntagsZeitung - Karl Brügger, managing director of Brügger & Thomet: “ We can assure you that all exports of weapon parts or licenses have been approved by Seco. “Brugger did not want to comment on the use of Swiss weapons. The French police used the GL06 launcher in the 2018/2019 riots of the yellow vests movement in France; as a result, demonstrators were seriously injured. B&T pointed out in a statement that ammunition unknown to the company was used, but not the non-lethal SIR impulse projectile developed for the thrower. Other ammunition increases the risk of injury considerably and makes the thrower less precise.
