SureFire LLC is a Californian manufacturer of flashlights . The main customers are the police and the military.
Product features
Since the Surefire lamps are built less for mass private use than primarily for professional use by the police, military and special forces, they differ considerably from conventional flashlights in terms of quality and performance. This is also reflected in the price. Since most Surefire models are operated with the relatively expensive CR-123A lithium batteries - which enable a lot of power in a small volume - the running costs are also considerably higher than those of comparable models with standard batteries. These operating costs can be reduced by using rechargeable batteries.
In addition to the previously existing weapon lamps, which are mounted on the weapon using adapters or the RIS rails provided for this purpose , there are now also models in the form of a front grip. Light units that are intended for use on a weapon are prohibited items within the meaning of the German Weapons Act.
casing
A typical Surefire lamp is made of CNC- milled aluminum with an anodized surface, the lens is made of high-temperature-resistant Pyrex glass. There are also model series that are made from nitrolone . These are more comfortable to touch at extremely low temperatures.
Bulbs
The lamp and reflector form a coordinated, pre-focused unit that is completely replaced in the event of failure. The narrower manufacturing tolerances that this makes possible contribute significantly to the high luminous efficacy of the lamps. Special light bulbs (with a gas mixture), LEDs and xenon lamps (gas discharge technology) are used. Individual models have a switchable combination of LEDs ("orientation light") and xenon ("operational or combat light"). There are also models available that can be mounted on firearms. In addition to the specially adapted housing shape, the prerequisite for this is, above all, an impact-protected lamp unit that can withstand the considerable vibrations when a shot is fired.
