The model 1935A self-loading pistol is a French self-loading pistol with a caliber of 7.65 × 20 mm .
history
After the First World War , the question of standardizing handguns was on the agenda in France . Various foreign models were evaluated for this purpose. The French military was convinced of the US Colt M1911 orderly pistol , but advocated an in-house development in the French 7.65 × 20 mm caliber. The tender was finally won by Charles Petter from the French arms factory Société Alsacienne de Constructions Mécaniques in Cholet with his design, largely based on the principle of the Colt M1911, which was included in the armament of the French armed forces in 1937 as Pistolet automatique modèle 1935 . From 1938, when the MAS also introduced the simplified self-loading pistol Model 1935S , the weapons of the original version were designated with the suffix A for Alsacienne.
About 10,700 pistols were made by the start of World War II . After the conquest of France, the weapon was produced on behalf of the Wehrmacht and was called the Pistol 625 (f). Around 23,850 pistols were made in this way up until the liberation of France. After that, production was resumed under French direction. A total of 84,950 of these pistols had been produced by 1950.
technology
The 1935A model is a recoil loader with a short sliding barrel and a Browning bolt lock. It is locked using two bolt combs on the upper side of the barrel in the slide, the barrel is connected to the frame with a chain link. The differences to the Colt 1911 are the trigger unit and safety device as well as the fact that the barrel guide sleeve is dispensed with in favor of a corresponding opening in the slide.
The trigger assembly is combined as one unit and can be removed from the weapon as a whole. This construction is similar to the Tokarew TT-33 made in the same period .
The 1935A model is a cock tensioner , the safety lever is on the left side of the slide. The safety locks the hammer, while the safety lever protrudes vertically upwards from the weapon. A grip safety and a release lever as in the Colt 1911 were dispensed with, a magazine safety prevents the shot from being fired when the magazine is removed. The slide catch lever is on the left side of the frame and the magazine release button behind the trigger guard.
On the top of the slide is the tactile loading indicator, which protrudes upwards when a cartridge is in the barrel.
Further developments
After the war, it was decided in France to use the 9 × 19 mm caliber in future . The model 1935A pistol was developed into the MAC-50 .
