Charles Petter

Charles Gabriel Petter (born March 26, 1880 in Lavey-Morcles , † July 7, 1953 in Montreux ) was a Swiss weapons designer.

Charles Petter studied in Bern and was a lieutenant in the infantry in the Swiss Army . He became an employee of Krupp in Essen . During World War I he served in the Foreign Legion , where he obtained French citizenship and the degree of captain . He was then director of the French branch of the Belgian company Armes Automatiques Lewis and consultant to the Société Alsacienne de Constructions Mécaniques in Cholet .

His French patent 782914 (CH 185452, US 2139203) for the 1935A self-loading pistol was acquired by the Swiss Industrial Society in 1937 and used for the SIG P210 pistol .

Charles Petter was married twice, from 1909 to Louise Marguerite Paule Charavet and from 1926 to Xenia Schegloff. The two daughters Elisabeth and Hélène were born from his second marriage.
