Former products and divisions

Rail vehicles

On January 17, 1853, the SIG was founded by Friedrich Peyer im Hof , Johann Conrad Neher and Heinrich Moser as a Swiss wagon factory . From around 1981, SIG, in consultation with the Schindler Group ( SWP , SWS ) and the FFA, concentrated on the manufacture of bogies and thus achieved initial successes. SIG bogies can be found in many countries. In the 1990s, SIG developed the electric tilting technology of the SBB RABDe 500 in competition with the hydraulic tilting technology of Fiat Ferroviaria . The rail vehicle division was sold to Fiat in 1995. In 2000 she came to Alstom together with the entire Fiat Ferroviaria . Also trams were produced, such as numerous followers after the model of Swiss standard car .

weapons

From 1860 the SIG manufactured weapons. SIG gained fame primarily through the production of the SIG P210 and SIG P220 pistols as well as the assault rifle 57 and the assault rifle 90 of the Swiss Army . From 1970 to 2000, SIG was also the owner of Hämmerli AG , the German gun manufacturer JP Sauer & Sohn and Blaser Jagdwaffen GmbH. This division was spun off in 2000 as SJSW Schweizer Jagd- und Sportwaffen AG (since October 2000 SAN Swiss Arms AG ) and sold to L & O Holding (Lüke and Ortmeier).

Road vehicles

In 1919 or 1921 there were attempts to get into automobile production. Martin Fischer, who previously worked for Turicum AG , developed the first model and sold the design to SIG. It was a cycle car . A V2 engine from MAG was mounted in the front of the vehicle. 82 mm bore and 103 mm piston stroke resulted in a displacement of 1088 cm³ . The wheelbase was 345 cm and the track was 110 cm. The body was made of aluminum and offered space for two people in a row. Only a few copies were made of this model.

In 1928 there was a collaboration with Martini .

Street-legal commercial vehicles with electric motors were built between 1933 and 1953 .

Automation

Between 1988 and 2000, SIG owned the German company Berger Lahr , which develops systems for positioning and automation. During this time, the products of this division were marketed under the name SIG positec . In 2000 this area was sold to Schneider Electric .

Packaging technology

In 1906 the production of packaging systems began. In 2004 Bosch Packaging Technology took over the Pharma , Confectionery and Food divisions.
