Graeme Hart (* 1955 ) is a New Zealand entrepreneur . He wasconsidered the richest man in New Zealand in 2016according to the National Business Review's 2016 Rich List .

Hart prefers to stay away from the media and makes few public appearances. Similar to other leveraged buyout (LBO) private equity investors, Hart has a penchant for buying underperforming and undervalued companies with stable cash flows that can be strengthened through strong cash management, cost cutting, and restructuring. He has focused on the packaging sector since buying Carter Holt Harvey . Its largest acquisition was the Alcoa Packaging & Consumer Group for 2.7 billion US $ in 2008, which later in Reynolds Packaging Group has been renamed. He does not manage his own business directly, but focuses primarily on the financing of his ventures.

The Forbes magazine declared him in 2016 for the 178th richest people in the world.

Life

Hart , who now lives in Auckland , studied economics at the University of Otago . He later founded the Rank Group investment company . Through this company he acquired the Australian food company Burns Philp and the Australian paper and packaging manufacturer Carter Holt Harvey . In 2007 he acquired the Swiss company SIG Holding . In 2014 he sold SIG Holding to the private equity company Onex .
