The Ajax AG was a Swiss automobile manufacturer, which was from 1906 to 1910.

history

The US-American Gottfried Aigner , who came from Austria and received his doctorate from the University of Zurich, founded the automobile factory Dr. G. Aigner . The brand name was Ajax . Already in 1907 the name was changed to Ajax AG . The production facilities were at Hirschengraben in Zurich . In order to advance the production of individual handcrafted vehicles, Ajax AG acquired a stake in the Zurich Automobildroschken-Gesellschaft in 1908 . A total of 32 landaulets were delivered to this subsidiary, and others to similar taxi companies in Munich and Vienna .

It took a lot of money to develop an airplane; In addition, the manufacture of the many individual parts for the new engines developed in 1909 was complex and costly. In 1910, Ajax AG went bankrupt and production was stopped. Ernst Asper took over parts of the company.

Models and technology

There was a first four-cylinder model with 20/27 hp . On this basis, a six-cylinder model with a displacement of 3.4 l was created under the direction of engineer D. Siebenmann . As early as 1907 it was used in the Targa Florio long-distance race . The Ajax models had advanced features early on, such as an accelerator pedal , carburetor flanged directly to the cylinders, and exhaust pipes that were combined into a cast body. The exhaust pressure was used for fuel delivery. In 1909 two new motors were developed whose shafts were supported by roller bearings . A clever coolant flow made forcibly cooled valve seats possible .

One copy is on display in the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne.
