Marius Lavet

Marius Lavet (* 1894 in Clermont-Ferrand ; † February 14, 1980 in Paris ) was a French engineer and watchmaker .

Life

Lavet studied at the École des Arts et Métiers in Cluny and the École Supérieure d'Électricité, where he received his engineering degree in 1914. He then did military service in World War I and was awarded the French War Merit Cross. After the end of the war, he began his professional career at the watch manufacturer Favre-Bulle , from 1923 he worked for Léon Hatot and built up the ATO watch (battery-operated pendulum watch ) branch in his works . He developed numerous patents for Hatot, including the Lavet stepper motor , which still bears his name today and is used in many modern watch movements and other applications.

Lavet was a founding member of the French Chronometry Society and taught at the École Nationale Supérieure de l'Aéronautique from 1952 to 1970. From 1953 to 1972 he was a member of the technical-scientific committee of the Département Technique du Comité Francéclat.

Marius Lavet has received numerous awards for his work and research and was also made a Knight of the Legion of Honor . The Lavet Association has been awarding the Prix Chéreau-Lavet every year since 2001.
