Lists on the subject |
The 1935S self-loading pistol is a French self-loading pistol with a caliber of 7.65 × 20 mm .
history
After the First World War , the question of standardizing handguns was on the agenda in France . Various foreign models were evaluated for this purpose. The French military was convinced of the US Colt M1911 orderly pistol , but advocated an in-house development in the French 7.65 × 20 mm caliber. In addition to the model 1935A self-loading pistol designed by Charles Petter at Société Alsacienne de Constructions Mécaniques in Cholet , the model of the Société Manufacturière d'Armes (MAS) was also included in the armament of the French armed forces in 1937/38 under the name Pistolet automatique modèle 1935S . The suffix S stands for St. Etienne.
1404 pistols were made by the beginning of World War II . After the liberation of France, production continued under French direction and another 5281 weapons were manufactured. After 1945 the 1935S model was produced by various other French manufacturers.
- Manufacture Française d'Armes et Cycles de Saint Étienne (Manufrance): around 8000 pieces, which in addition to the MAS hallmark were marked with MF on the right side of the slide.
- Manufacture Nationale d'Armes de Chatellerault (MAC): 50,087 pieces, marked MAC
- Societe d'Applications Generales d'Electricite et de la Mecanique (SAGEM): 10,000 pieces, marked SAGEM.
technology
The 1935S is a recoil loader with a short sliding barrel and a bolt lock (modified Browning system ). The barrel is locked by means of a bulge-like thickening of the barrel in the sleeve ejection window of the slide, the barrel is connected to the frame by a chain link. Other differences to the 1935A self-loading pistol are the exterior: the muzzle protrudes from the slide and the safety lever, which points forwards instead of upwards in the safe mode. The safety of the pistols produced by MAC was later modified based on the model of the 1935A.
Parts and assemblies are not interchangeable with the 1935A.
The trigger assembly is combined as one unit and can be removed from the weapon as a whole. This construction is similar to the Tokarew TT-33 made in the same period .
The 1935S model is a cock tensioner , the safety lever is on the left side of the slide. The fuse blocks the hammer. A grip safety and a release lever as in the Colt 1911 were dispensed with, a magazine safety prevents the shot from being fired when the magazine is removed. The slide catch lever is on the left side of the frame and the magazine release button behind the trigger guard.
On the top of the slide is the tactile loading indicator, which protrudes upwards when a cartridge is in the barrel.
Further developments
The Schweizerische Industrie-Gesellschaft (SIG) had acquired a license for the production of the 1935S model in 1937. This was the P 47/8 with a 7.65 × 21 mm Luger caliber . The SIG P210 in caliber 9 × 19 mm was later developed from this .
