Zbigniew Głowienka (born September 9, 1951 in Pisarzowice , Greater Poland Voivodeship ) is a Polish lieutenant general and commander of the Polish Army ( Wojska Lądowe ).

Life

Głowienka graduated from the Officers School of the Mechanized Armed Forces in 1973 ( Oficerska Szkoła Wojsk Zmechanizowanych im. Tadeusza Kościuszki , now the Officers College of the Land Forces ). Zbigniew Głowienka began his career as an officer in the 35th Regiment de Landing Forces in Gdansk . In 1980 he graduated from the Army Staff Academy. From 1982 to 1986 Głowienka was the commander of the 4th Landing Forces Regiment, from which he was assigned to head the staff of the 8th Division of Coastal Defense. He remained in this position until 1988. He was then commander of the 7th Coastal Defense Brigade for four years . In 1992 he graduated from the College of National Defense ( Akademia Obrony Narodowej ) . In 1992 he returned as head of the 8th Coastal Defense Division. There he was promoted to Brigadier General in 1994 . From 1996 to 1997 he was chief of the task force for the Pomeranian military district, and in 1997 he became deputy head of training for the area. In 2000 he became head of army training. The following year Głowienka was promoted to division general and commander of the 1st Mechanized Forces Corps . From December 2003 to October 2006 he was head of the Pomeranian Military District. On October 6, 2006, he was appointed Chief Inspector of Military Assistance ( Inspectorate Wsparcia Sił Zbrojnych ). From August 30, 2007 to June 15, 2009 he was commander of the Silesian military district. On June 15, 2009 Zbigniew Głowienka was appointed commander of the 2nd Corps of Mechanized Forces. On June 20, 2010, Zbigniew Głowienka succeeded the late Tadeusz Buk as commander-in-chief of the Polish Army .
