The 1. Korvettengeschwader (1. KorvGschw) is a boat squadron of the German Navy and is subordinate to the operational flotilla 1 in Kiel .

It was erected on June 26, 2006 and is led by a commander with the rank of frigate captain . The squadron has a squadron staff, a system support group (SUG), the operational training center for corvettes (EAZ K) and currently five corvettes of the K130 class , which were put into service in the period from 2008 to 2013. The squadron is located at the Warnemünde naval base in the Rostock district of Hohe Düne , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

In November 2018 it was announced that with the arrival of the second batch of K130 corvettes, the number of posts would grow from 500 to 1050.

units

Corvette No. 6, the first of the so-called supplementary procurement (2nd lot), was laid down on April 25, 2019. It will be called "Cologne" and is to be put into service in 2024. Four more corvettes with the names "Emden", "Karlsruhe", "Augsburg" and "Lübeck" are to be added gradually from 2025.

The crest

The basic colors of the coat of arms are red and white. They are reminiscent of the Hanseatic League and stand for free trade across the sea. The five white stars represent the original number of corvettes in the squadron. The three red stars represent the staff, the systems support group and the operations training center. The downward sloping swords and the blue shield, which indicates the X-shape of the corvette, symbolize the willingness to serve the Federal Republic of Germany loyally and to bravely defend the peace and freedom of the German people. The figure of the jumper in it, in the form of a seahorse, creates the maritime reference to the game of chess, which has been a symbol of strategy and tactics for thousands of years. The value of this pawn ranks above the pawns and below the queen and king. The corvette also plays a comparable role and is to be positioned between the smaller and larger surface naval warfare agents. The jumper also has a special meaning because he is the only figure who can jump over other figures. This underlines the individual flexibility and the high operational value of the corvettes.

At the same time, the chess piece of the knight also reminds of the number "1", which stands for the 1st Corvette Squadron.
