The Bremen was a frigate of the German Navy and type ship of the class F122 , also Bremen class. After the SMS Bremen she is the second warship of a German Navy, which bears this name and is named after the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen .
General
The later Bremen was laid on July 9, 1979 for the German Navy at the Bremer Vulkan shipyard. It was commissioned on May 7, 1982 and it was assigned to the 4th frigate squadron. Your main task should be fighting submarines. The city of Bremen sponsored the ship on May 29, 1982. Godmother was the wife of Bremen's Mayor Hans Koschnick , Christine Koschnick.
The Bremen was the first ship of the F-122 series and the first ship of the German Navy to carry helicopters. Over 50,000 hp, which were transmitted via two shafts to two seven-blade propellers, enabled her to travel at speeds of up to 30 knots . More than 200 crew members were on board.
After 32 years of service and around 1.5 million kilometers at sea, the Bremen was decommissioned in the naval arsenal in Wilhelmshaven on March 28, 2014. The frigate had already been taken out of service on September 30, 2013. 16 commanders commanded the ship during this time.
It was put up for sale in March 2020 and the buyer has to scrap it.
