The Augsburg initially belonged to the 2nd frigate squadron. On January 9, 2006 she was subordinated to the 4th frigate squadron. The Augsburg was on the road several times in the context of Operation Enduring Freedom in the Horn of Africa and in the Mediterranean. Their nickname "Wilde 13" connects the identifier with the pirate gang from Jim Knopf and the Wilde 13 , which was interpreted by the Augsburger Puppenkiste .

From April 3, 2013 to August 30, 2013, the Augsburg was deployed in Operation Atalanta for five and a half months under frigate captain Bernhard Veitl .

On February 11, 2014, the Augsburg left her home port Wilhelmshaven ( naval base Heppenser Groden ) together with the frigates Hamburg (Association flagship), Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , the Corvette Oldenburg and the task force supply company Frankfurt am Main to participate in the annual Operations and Training Association (EAV) of the Navy attend. By the end of the EAV on June 20, 2014 in Kiel, she was to take part in several maneuvers between the Arctic Circle and the equator. 13 ports in 9 countries were to be called.

On April 9, 2014, Augsburg received the order to protect the US special ship Cape Ray in the eastern Mediterranean , on which Syrian chemical weapons were destroyed. She was released from the SAB for this task .

On November 20, 2015, Augsburg left its home port of Wilhelmshaven to take part in the EU mission EU NAVFOR Med - Operation Sophia together with the task force provider Berlin , but was replaced on December 3 by the Weilheim mine hunter (M1059) .

On December 6, 2015, Augsburg began its service to protect the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle in action against the Islamic State . On March 11th, the frigate was released from its protection mission and detached from the carrier association. The crew was awarded the French Mission Medal by the CTG. On March 24th she returned to her home port.

On August 30, 2016, the Augsburg departed again for the Counter-Daesh operation , in order to join the French sponsoring association of Charles De Gaulle in the Mediterranean on September 14. On November 14th, the frigate was detached from the carrier formation and set off again on the march back. For four days she took part in the NATO maritime surveillance operation Operation Sea Guardian . On November 25, 2016 the Augsburg returned to Wilhelmshaven.

On September 17, 2018, the Augsburg sailed from her home port for the EUNAVFOR MED mission in the Mediterranean . Augsburg is replacing the Mosel tender , which is scheduled to be deployed until February 2019. The handover took place in the port of Cagliari in Sardinia on September 26, 2018 .
