Rolf Schmitz (Admiral)

Rolf Schmitz (born June 2, 1949 in Cologne ) is a German flotilla admiral a. D. Most recently, he was Head of Department I in the naval command in Bonn .

Military career

Training and first uses

Rolf Schmitz joined the German Navy in 1969 . As an officer candidate for crew X / 69 , he began his training as a naval officer . This was followed by various uses.

Service as a staff officer

Schmitz initially served in the destroyer flotilla as first officer , and from 1992 to 1993 as commander of the frigate " Bremen ". From 1998 to 1999 he held the post of commander of the 4th frigate squadron in Wilhelmshaven. He then became an adjutant to Federal President Johannes Rau .

Service as an admiral

From 2003 to 2004 Schmitz led the destroyer flotilla as commander. He then moved to Cologne to the personnel office of the Bundeswehr as deputy head of office and chief of staff. On January 1, 2007, he became Head of Department I (Personnel; Training; Organization) in the naval command of the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn. Schmitz was retired on June 30, 2011.
