Theodor von Mutius (born December 19, 1909 in Posen , † October 19, 1977 ) was a German naval officer.

Life

Theodor von Mutius joined the Reichsmarine on April 1, 1928 . After five months in the Stralsund ship's master department and three months on the training ship Niobe , he joined the new cruiser Emden on October 1, 1928 as a cadet . As an ensign and lieutenant, he spent three years on the ship of the line Silesia . He was a training officer at the ship artillery school (Saßnitz) and the distance measuring school at Dwasieden Castle . As a watch officer he came on October 1, 1936 on the sailing training ship Horst Wessel and a year later as a lieutenant captain on the cruiser Leipzig . He was first officer in 1938 on the artillery training ship Bremse and 1939–1941 on Z 14 Friedrich Ihn . In August 1941 he was 1st Admiral Staff Officer at the newly established German Naval Training Command in Romania. On July 1, 1942, he was transferred as First Admiral Staff Officer to the escort chief of the Black Sea. On April 1, 1943, he became the commandant of Z 29 . He was interned in May 1945 as a personnel officer in the discharge division . From 1946–1950 he was a self-employed gardener in Krummendeich and 1951–1955 managing director of the Louisenlund Foundation . On January 2, 1956, he came to the Federal Ministry of Defense as a consultant in Department VII 3 . Assigned to the G2 / A2 school in Rengsdorf and the Ermekeil barracks , he was a military attaché at the German embassy in Copenhagen from January 1959 to August 1962 . After briefing at the fleet command and at the sonar school of the United States Navy in Key West , he became commander of the 1st destroyer squadron in Kiel on November 5, 1962 . From October 1964 to March 1968 he was in charge of the destroyer flotilla in Wilhelmshaven. In his last two years of service, he was the Marine Department Commander of the Bundeswehr Leadership Academy . His service ended on March 31, 1970.
