Georg von Maltzan

Georg W. Freiherr von Maltzan (born May 4, 1953 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a retired German naval officer, most recently a flotilla admiral and sub-department head of operations in the naval command in Rostock .

Life

He grew up in Athens , among other places, and joined the German Navy with Crew VII / 73 . During his service, he had, among other command of the speedboat of the Tiger class S 47 Jaguar (1980 to 1984) and the destroyer Rommel (1993-1995). From August 2000 to February 2004 he was squadron commander, first of the 1st destroyer squadron and then the 1st frigate squadron . This was followed by a position as head of unit in the naval command . From 2006 to 2009 v. Maltzan was deployed as a military attaché at the German embassy in Paris , after he had already worked there as deputy naval attaché from 1991–1993 and as naval attaché from 1997–2000. Before he was employed as a subdivision manager for operations in the naval command in Rostock, he was chief of staff in the fleet command in Glücksburg (Baltic Sea) from October 2009 to October 2012 . From January 24th to May 30th 2013 he was in command of Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 . He was retired on May 31, 2016.
