Hansgeorg Model

Hansgeorg Model (born March 1, 1927 in Görlitz ; † April 16, 2016 ) was a brigadier general of the Bundeswehr and a military writer.

Life

Hansgeorg Model was the son of the later General Field Marshal Walter Model (1891-1945) and his wife Herta (nee Huyssen, 1892-1985) and was baptized by the Protestant pastor Martin Niemöller .

In December 1944 he joined as a cadet in the replacement group of the assault gun brigade Greater Germany the Wehrmacht one. He went through basic training in Guben and was trained at the OB school in Cottbus and Zwickau in February 1945 . In April 1945, he began the cadet training , he was used briefly as infantry and then in the headquarters of the 15th Panzer Grenadier Division adopted.

In 1947 he passed the Abitur , after which he was trained as a journalist . In 1950 he became a consultant at the Federal Council and began studying law at the University of Bonn .

Promotions

In May 1956 he joined the armored infantry training battalion of the Bundeswehr in Munster as an ensign and then came to the Army Officer School I in Hanover. In 1957 he switched to artillery troops and trained at the army artillery school in Idar-Oberstein. In 1957/58 he was a battery officer in the 5 armored artillery regiment in Niederlahnstein . In 1958/59 he was S2 or S1 in the tank artillery battalion 145 there. In 1960/61 he was S3 at the School for Inner Leadership in Koblenz. 1961/62 he was chief of the field artillery battalion 41 in Landshut.

From 1962 to 1964 he took part in the 5th general staff course (H) at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. From 1964 to 1966 he was an advisor to the command staff of the Army in Bonn. From 1966 to 1968 he was G3 in the 29th Panzer Brigade in Sigmaringen. From 1968 to 1970 he commanded the 215 armored artillery battalion in Augustdorf and from 1976 to 1982 the 7th Panzer Grenadier Brigade in Hamburg. In the meantime he was a consultant and head of department in the command staff of the armed forces in Bonn. From 1982 to 1987 he was head of the Bundeswehr Intelligence Office in Bad Neuenahr. In March 1987 he retired from service.

Model was married and the father of three children.
