Name of the parish

The community name "Laarbeek" was chosen on March 8, 1994 from many names. The residents of the previous parishes that made up Laarbeek were able to submit a new name for the parish. Other suggestions were: Beek en Donk, Bextelhout, Groenewoud, Grotendonk and Laarlanden.

The name Laarbeek is a combination of the word components “Laar” (named after “Het Laar”, which is the center of the municipality) and “Beek” (named after the various streams that flow through the municipality).

In addition, the name Laarbeek consists of parts of the earlier municipalities:

  • "L" comes from Lieshout
  • “Aar” comes from Aarle-Rixtel
  • "Beek" comes from Beek en Donk
