Guus Meeuwis, 2007

Guus Meeuwis (born March 23, 1972 in Mariahout ) is a Dutch pop singer .

One of his biggest hits was "Per spoor (kedeng, kedeng)". An English version of it (“The Holiday Express”) has spread in recent years via the animation programs of Spanish club hotels (“ Mini Disco ”), and the Hermes House Band has turned it into a dance version suitable for parties . Furthermore, a German cover version of the Zipfelbuben was released in 2006 . Meeuwis is under contract with the EMI Group .

Life

After finishing school he studied law in Tilburg . After a romantic weekend with his girlfriend Valerie in Bruges , he wrote his first number 1 hit “Het is een nacht” ( German : “That is a night”) or “Levensecht” (literally: “true to life”). Together with a few friends he sang the song at a student song festival in Leiden , they won this song contest, but then separated at the height of their success. A year later a talent scout heard this song by chance and offered Meeuwis a contract. The song was then released as a single in August 1995 and sold more than 250,000 times in the Netherlands and Belgium. In the same year Meeuwis finished his studies to become a singer. In 1996 Meeuwis brought out his second number 1 hit "Per spoor (kedeng, kedeng)". After that, his first album called "Verbazing" hit stores. It also became a great success. In 2000, the recording of his third CD was interrupted because Meeuwis had developed vocal cord problems. After an operation, the recordings were resumed a few months late. His song "Brabant", which was released in 2003, became so popular that it is even repeatedly brought up as the official anthem for the Dutch province of Noord-Brabant . In April 2005, his third number 1 hit "Geef mij je angst" (German: "Gib mir dein Angst"), originally written in 1982 by Udo Juergens and Michael Kunze , was released exactly 10 years after his first number 1 -Success. In 2006 Meeuwis received the Dutch music award “ Gouden Harp ” and released “Live In Het Philips Stadion”, one of the best-selling live CDs in the Netherlands and Belgium. Since that year 2006, Guus Meeuwis has been performing annually, mostly at the beginning of June, at the performances known as “Groots Met Een Zachte G” in the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven. Dutch stars are always guests, such as Rowwen Héze (2006 and 2010), Marco Borsato (2010), Golden Earring (2012), Racoon (2013) or Kane (2014). In the 8th edition of these appearances, the one millionth visitor was counted in June 2013.

His tenth studio album, entitled Morgen , entered the Dutch charts at number 1 in 2015.

Private

He married his girlfriend Valerie, for whom he had sung the song Het is een Nacht , in 2002. The couple have four children. In 2016, the couple announced they were getting divorced. Guus Meeuwis has been in a relationship with stylist Manon Meijers since 2016.
