Kane was the name of a Dutch pop rock band from The Hague that was formed in 1998 and split up in 2014. Kane was one of the most successful bands in her home country. However, the success was only limited to the Netherlands and Belgium . The band was largely unknown in Germany.

Band history

Kane was founded in 1998 by the two Dutchmen Dinand Woesthoff (vocals, guitar) and Dennis van Leeuwen (guitar), who both also remained the only members who remained constant in the group. The remaining members changed very frequently. In addition to Westhoeff and van Leeuwen, the first line-up consisted of Tony Cornelissen (guitar, vocals), Paul Jan Bakker (guitar), Aram Kersbergen (bass), Martijn Bosman (drums) and Ronald Kool (keyboards). After three months the band, which mainly offers melodic guitar rock, was signed by the major label BMG Netherlands . Her first single, Where Do I Go Now , made it into the Dutch charts and received massive radio airplay . In January 2000 their first album As Long As You Want This was released , which reached number three in the Dutch album charts and was awarded a platinum record within six months.

In summer the band played at the Dutch festivals Pinkpop , Parkpop , World Harbor and Haagse Koninginnenach as well as at the Enschede charity concert, in Belgium at the Maktrock Festival and in Germany at the Expo 2000 in Hanover . They opened for Bon Jovi in Amsterdam. On October 29, 2001, the second album So Glad You Made It followed , which reached number 2 on the Dutch album charts. At the MTV Europe Music Awards they are twice named best Dutch act .

In 2002 Kane accompanied the Simple Mindsim support program for their Germany tour. In 2003 they reached number 1 on the Dutch charts for the first time with their remix album What If . In What If there is also the single Something to Say , which was ranked as the only in the German single charts. It reached number 86 on August 29, 2005. The album, which mainly received electronic versions of the songs from the first two albums, contained a remake of Rain Down on Me , the version of which reached number 38 in the British charts, and a remix by Tiësto des song of the same name, which became number one in the Belgian charts for Flanders in 2004. They also reached number 1 in the Dutch album charts with the two following albums Fearless (2005) and Everything You Want (2008). Fearless contained the song Dreamer , which Dinand Woesthoff dedicated to his wife, the actress Guusje Nederhorst , who died of breast cancer on January 29, 2004. The song also became a number one hit. Although he was on the Kane album, only Woesthoff is named on the single as an artist.

No Surrender was released in 2009 and Come Together in 2012 . The band broke up in 2014 after 16 years. During their career they won the Dutch Edison Music Prize six times .
