The small river de Essche Stroom flows along the village of Esch .
Localities
In 1996 the community of Haaren was expanded to include the dissolved communities of Esch and Helvoirt. In 1997 the municipality was expanded to include the village of Biezenmortel (former municipality of Udenhout). There are many forest and nature areas in the municipality of Haaren, including part of the Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park . There is also a hamlet called Hal in the municipality of Haaren .
Bigger cities nearby are 's-Hertogenbosch and Tilburg .
Seminary
In Haaren there used to be a seminary where, among other things, Peerke Donders was trained as a priest . During the Second World War it was a hostage camp and prison. Mayors and other prominent citizens were held hostage here.
In addition, secret agents who had been arrested during the England game were held there, including the radio operator Huub Lauwers . The first memorial plaques were installed at the main gate to the building complex as early as 1947, but it was not until May 2000 that the Haaren memorial plaza was opened with a permanent exhibition on the history of the hostage camp and the police prison.
politics
In the last local election on March 21, 2018, the local voter group Progressief '96 won the election. In the presumably last legislative period from 2018 to 2022, it forms a coalition with the CDA .
Local government reform
The Haaren municipality aims to dissolve it by January 1, 2021. The four villages are to be distributed among different neighboring communities. On July 5, 2018, the local council decided that Biezenmortel should be incorporated into Tilburg , Esch into Boxtel , Haaren into Oisterwijk and Helvoirt into Vught .

collaboration
The Haaren community works closely with the Vught and Sint-Michielsgestel communities . The main focus is on personal issues with the two communities. A merger between Vught and Haaren is not (yet) on the program, but it is probably being talked about. In 2018 it was announced that Helvoirt will be incorporated into Vught as part of the 2021 local government reform, while the other three villages will fall to other neighboring communities.

automobile
All villages in the municipality of Haaren, with the exception of Esch, are on the N65. This makes hair easy to reach. Esch and the hamlet of Hal are on the A2. Esch can be reached via the Boxtel -Noord exit , while the hamlet of Hal can be reached via the Boxtelseweg (the country road along the A2 from Boxtel to Vught ).

The municipality of Haaren (Helvoirt and Esch) has had no train station since 1938. In the municipality, however, some city and regional buses run by BBA (Brabantsche Buurtspoorwegen en Autodiensten).

Radio and television
The municipality of Haaren has two local channels: HOS TV, a cable newspaper for the whole municipality and LOESCH TV, local television for Esch.
In the municipality you can also receive some regional channels: Omroep Brabant and Radio 8FM. Since January 1, 2006 there has been competition from a commercial local television company TV & Co.
Daily and weekly newspapers
The regional daily in Haaren is the Brabants Dagblad . This newspaper has a special edition for the De Meierij area .
