Halderberge ( municipality in the province of Noord-Brabant in the Netherlands . The municipality was created on January 1, 1997 through the merger of the previous municipalities Hoeven , Oudenbosch and Oud en Nieuw Gastel .

Location and economy
The municipality is located in the northwest of the province of Noord-Brabant, partly in the so-called sugar beet region, north of Roosendaal . The highways run through the municipality
- A17 : Dordrecht - Roosendaal (exit to Oudenbosch)
- A58 : Vlissingen - Bergen op Zoom - Breda - Tilburg (exit Rucphen, near Bosschenhoofd).
The Roosendaal - Dordrecht railway crosses Oudenbosch. A train stops at the station every hour.
The bog and clay soils allow the cultivation of sugar beets . There is also horticulture, animal husbandry and some tree nurseries in the community. The industry produces u. a. Building materials and sugar. There is also some tourism in Halderberge.
history
According to a document, in December 1275, the Lord of Breda gave the Cistercian monastery of St. Bernard in Hemiksem on the Scheldt , a little south of Antwerp , an area of one hundred "hoeven" (a "hoeve" = 20 hectares ; that corresponded to the reason and Soil of an average farm). The donated area was named Halderberge in a file from 1298. Hence the name of the present-day community. The monks founded an abbey there and cleared the moor.
In 1421 the area was hit by the St. Elisabeths storm surge. The 16th and 17th centuries brought war misery and economic setbacks to this area . Even so, this is the period when today's villages emerged. Oudenbosch was named after a formerly cleared forest. Stampersgat after a Stampers family who owned a farm there around 1628.
In the first half of the 19th century, the cultivation of "meekrap" (was madder ) very productive. This plant was harvested for the root, which contains a red dye for textiles. Sugar beet was later grown in its place. The then pastor of Oudenbosch, Hellemans, had a scaled-down copy of the Basilica of St. Peter built in Rome in his home village in 1865 after a visit to the original . The new church was not completed until 1892. In the 20th century there was a seminary in Oudenbosch for decades .

- The Basilica of St. Agatha and Barbara von Oudenbosch was built from 1865 to 1892 by the architect Pierre Cuypers . It is 81 m long, 55 m wide and at the highest point 63 m high; each corresponds to a quarter of the dimensions of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

- The inhabitants of the municipality are lovers of cycling ; there are regular events in this area; Even those who want to get around on a bike at a slow pace will get their money's worth, because you can get free flyers with tips for bike tours.
politics
The local VVD parliamentary group won the local elections on March 21, 2018 with 27.2 percent of the votes. During the legislative period from 2018 to 2022, they form a coalition with Lokaal Halderberge and Werkgroep Oud-Gastel Stampersgat .
