Maurilius of Angers

Maurilius von Angers (* around 364 in Milan , † September 13, 453 in Angers ) was a bishop of Angers and is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Maurilius, from a noble family, was ordained a priest by Martin von Tours . For four decades he carried out missionary activities from the Chalonnes monastery , which he had entered as a monk . Around 423 he was ordained bishop - probably by Brictius .

He is buried in the crypt of the Saint-Maurille church in Chalonnes, which was later named after him.

Worship and blazon

His feast day is September 13th . He is the patron saint of Angers ; Patron of fishermen and gardeners and is called in case of water hazards.

Usually he is represented with a spade , fish and pigeon .
