The Hilversum Railway Station is the largest train station in the Dutch city of Hilversum . The station is used by 26,697 people every day (2018). It is the central hub in urban public transport (ÖPNV). National regional and long-distance trains as well as the cross-border Intercity from Berlin to Amsterdam operate at the station .

history

The first station was opened on June 10, 1874 with the Amsterdam – Zutphen line. From 1997 onwards, no more InterCity trains stopped at the station because it only had two platforms, which meant that it could no longer cope with the increased number of InterCity trains on the route. A third platform was then built in mid-2006. In 2007 tracks 4 and 5 followed on the new platform. Since 2007 the InterCity trains have stopped in Hilversum again. The plans for today's train station came from the Dutch architect Joost van Santen. The station was given its current appearance in 1992.
