The Hilversum – Lunetten railway is a railway line between Hilversum and the Utrecht district of Lunetten in the Netherlands . The railway is a branch of the Amsterdam – Zutphen railway , which is the most important railway line in the eastern Netherlands. The length of the route is around 18 kilometers. It also serves as a diversion route if the Rhijnspoorweg is closed between Utrecht and Amsterdam .

history

The line was opened in 1874. The maximum speed on the route is 130 km / h. This is reached on the section between the train station in Hilversum and the junction with the Utrecht – Kampen railway , in the direction of Utrecht Centraal. The section in the Utrecht city area is only driven at a maximum speed of 60 km / h. The entire line is double-track and was electrified in 1942.

Train traffic

At the moment, the InterCity from Utrecht to Almere , as well as a stop from Utrecht Centraal to Leiden Centraal , run every 30 minutes. If the Rhijnspoorweg is closed, the trains between Amsterdam and Utrecht will be diverted along the route, but will not stop at any station.
