De Bilt ( municipality in the Dutch province of Utrecht with 42,866 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2019). The merged villages De Bilt and Bilthoven form the main town. On January 1, 2001, the villages of Maartensdijk, Westbroek, Hollandsche Rading and Groenekan were incorporated .

The municipality is located 5 kilometers east of the city of Utrecht . The Rijksweg 27 and Rijksweg 28 highways intersect to the southwest of the village . Bilthoven station is on the line from Utrecht to Amersfoort , and Hollandsche Rading station is on the line from Utrecht to Hilversum . The farming village of Maartensdijk with a picturesque town center is also located between the latter cities.
history
After the First World War, pacifists gathered here for the Bilthoven meetings .
economy
The main employers are:
- the KNMI ( Koninklijk Nederlands Meteorologische Instituut ), the Dutch weather service
- the RIVM ( Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu ), an authority responsible for public health (including vaccinations and information campaigns) and a healthy living environment (including environmental protection).
The former Berg en Bosch hospital (1932–1962) is located in the municipality of De Bilt. As De Bilt is on the edge of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug forest , there is also some tourism.
